  • Is there a future for print newspapers? What platforms will win in the future? Those are the types of questions worrying the 12 Board of Directors at the leading media corporation Schibsted.  To make the discussion better the corporation this time sent out brand new iPads with all the strategy documents uploaded to the board members.

- This is a new form for adult education for the board members, chairman Ole Jacob Sunde said to E24, a business site run by the corporation.

Schibsted is a leading European media group with operations in 26 countries. It is particularly strong in the Scandinavian market owning several of the largest newspapers in Norway and Sweden, such as VG, Aftenposten, Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet.

Several of the media houses in Schibsted, such as my own employer Aftenposten, now work hard to develop products for iPad. While iPad has not yet been launched in Scandinavia, a great number of people in this technologically advanced market have already bought the multimedia tablet abroad.

The main topic for the board meeting this week? The corporate strategy for the next three years. And for Schibsted, as for all other media corporation these days, that strategy is bound to include iPad and similar platforms in some form or another.

Will the board members embrace the tablet platform personally? Well, I guess an informal test is how they behave on the board meeting. Will they all be flipping through the board papers on their iPads? Or have they printed out all the papers ahead, just like before?
