Twitter as a tool for journalism

by John Einar Sandvand on February 28, 2009 · 6 comments

Recently I gave a presentation for a group of Norwegian news reporters about how Twitter can be used as a tool for journalism. I have now translated it – and here is the English version:

I gave this presentation for colleagues at Aftenposten.no – a  leading news site in Norway.

Twitter usage has boosted in Norway recently and journalists wanted to have a quick introduction to how it might be used as a professional tool. Most of them had never used Twitter before. This presentation is intended as a very basic introduction.

As quite a few people have looked at the original Norwegian version of the presentation on Slideshare, I decided to also make an English version.

For BetaTales readers some of the content will be familiar. You can read more at:

Please feel free to comment and offer suggestions for what you think should be included in a presentation like this.

On a different note:
I apologize for not having updated BetaTales recently. The reason for this is that I have been in Cambodia for the last three weeks working on a book about the country. You can read more about this project on my other blog: Cambodia Tales

Great presentation, John!

It is awesome to see some old “journalistic taboos” becoming past! It’s absolutelly possible to do daily journalistic writing or even shorter with Twitter. I’m that happy with your presentation because I’m a journalism student from Brazil. I’m also in my last year at college and my thesis and product are into the Digital Media area!

See ya!

If you let me, can I reproduce your presentation in my blog? With all credits to you, of course…

Thanks,

Luísa
